Delivery Mode
Hybrid
Start
July 13, 2026

Course Overview
Children enjoy and seek out experiences that are challenging and adventurous. Nature readily provides such opportunities. Being outdoors with children in all kinds of weather requires a level of risk management beyond fire drills and hand washing instructions, and this course prepares nature-based early childhood educators to provide it. Topics that will be considered include risk assessment and hazard identification, supporting and managing risky play, scaffolding children’s use of tools, and research on the relationship between nature play and overall health and development.
Course Materials: Students should contact the course instructor and review the course syllabus for information related to course materials/texts.
